Detox Day 5

Ok. The detox is going alright so far. I’m feeling mostly successful and still have a few days to go. I’m down another pound but am still having daily headaches. I’m not sure if I’m getting sick or if this is still a result of detox…I guess I’ll figure it out either way soon enough.

I just made my morning pitcher of juice:

  • 1 grapefruit, 1 green apple, 1 pear, 1 cucumber, handful of asparagus, 1 head romaine lettuce, 1 cup kale

I need to pick up a few things at the grocery store this afternoon and will grab fresh oranges, ginger, beets, red cabbage, mangos, and spinach. I’m getting a little bored with my current juices and need something different in order to keep being successful.

This is a boring post, I apologize. I just wanted to give a quick update but am back to cleaning, reading, and finishing up projects for my summer class…

Day 3 Recap and Day 4 Plan

I think I need to alter the whole “cleanse” idea for this week and just say that I’m incorporating a lot of juice in my daily diet. Yesterday I snacked and had a modified lunch with the boys and ended up having sushi for dinner. Granted, this isn’t the end of the world diet-wise, but it’s disappointing when I was hoping to be on a juice-only diet for 4 days.

That being announced, I’m on “day 4” but feel like crap about it. I’m going to see how well today goes and work on being nicer to myself as well as work on sticking with just juice. Here’s the plan:

  • 1 pear, 1 cucumber, turnip greens
  • 1 grapefruit, 2 peaches, asparagus, 1 cucumber, romaine, spinach
  • 1 apple 1 lemon, ginger, 1 cucumber, kale
  • 1 mango, 2 slices pineapple, 1 cucumber, romaine, spinach, kale

I’m hoping to get the boys to a playground this afternoon and think that being out of the house and away from snack temptations will be helpful. Two days until I’m at the beach…two days…

4 Day Cleanse: Day 1 Recap and Day 2 Plan

Day 1 was partially a failure and partially ok. I maintained my juicing schedule posted the other day, but I ended up eating pizza when I made it for lunch while nannying. It resulted in a an awful stomach ache, feelings of regret and anger, and a belly flop of a failure for day 1. Ugh.

But I went to the grocery and have stocked up for the rest of this week. Here’s tomorrow’s plan:

  • 1 pear, 1 lemon, ginger, asparagus, 1 cucumber, romaine, greens
  • 1 grapefruit, 1 green apple, 1 cucumber, red cabbage, romaine, kale
  • 3 slices pineapple, asparagus, 1 cucumber, romaine, spinach
  • 1 orange, 1/2 mango, romaine, spinach, kale

If I am starving before bed, I’ll add a fifth juice. I just chopped and measured everything for tomorrow and have them lined up in tupperware containers in the fridge. Did I mention that juicing is sort of high maintenance? Most of the time, like now, I enjoy the order and ritual of cleaning and prepping and laying out daily juicing plans. It gives me a sense of control and calm that I never, ever get when nannying all day (I’m looking at you, Mr. 5 year old). I just have to make sure I don’t eat whatever lunch and snacks I’m making for the kiddos tomorrow.

4 Day Juice Cleanse

During final exams in early May, I stress bought the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth juicer off Amazon.com. I had watched various documentaries about juicing and healthy eating and the dangers of big food companies in America and my goal was to flood my system with nutrients, feel healthier, and lose weight. I jump started the first week with a 100% juice detox where I basically only consumed freshly juiced vegetables and fruits about 4-6 times a day. While it was tough to follow for an entire week, I managed to get through almost all of it without cheating much and mostly loved it. My daily headaches went away after the first 2 days, my energy level increased, and I dropped weight right away.

Since then, I still juice a lot. I have brought it on weekend getaways to friends’ apartments (in retrospect that was probably annoying) and feel really gross if I go too long without making and drinking any. Since that first week, I’ve also dropped about 10 pounds. I’m heading to the beach Friday and want to do another complete cleanse all this week. Hopefully I can feel better and lose a few pounds before prancing around Wrightsville beach in a bikini (because it’s no fun if you don’t prance).

This evening, after a weekend with some bad food choices, I had the following juices:

  • 1 orange, 1 apple, 1 cucumber, romaine lettuce, spinach, kale
  • 3 slices of pineapple, romaine, kale, collared greens

Juicing 1

I feel full and am anxious to get started on the next few days. I’ll have to get up early to prep for my day since I nanny from 8 to 6, and I’ll also have to try hard to say no to snacking when the kids do. But I really want to succeed.
My juicing plan for tomorrow is as follows (obsessively planning things out helps me stay on track and appeals to my ridiculous quasi Type A personality):

  • 7 am – 3 slices pineapple, romaine, spinach
  • 10 am – 1 grapefruit, 1 apple, 2 cucumbers, romaine, spinach
  • 1 pm – 2 plums, 4 strawberries, beet slices, collared greens, kale
  • 4 pm – 3 slices pineapple, spinach, kale
  • 7 pm – 1 pear, 1 lemon, ginger, 1 cucumber, spinach

I’ll need to grocery shop after nannying and stock up for the rest of the week. I hope that updating and posting here about it will keep me in check and on track. I think I can, I think I can…
